Antarctica the Great White Wonder!

Take some time off and go somewhere away from the city in nature where you can do nothing but relax, relate, and release. The best place to do that would be the end of the world! Enjoy nature and the great white continent.

Antarctica's Finest

    Who Vacations in Antarctica?

Antarctica has become a top destination for world travelers. For many travelers, Antarctica is their 7th continent to explore. On average approximately 100,000 people visit such a majestic place. Antarctica appeals to adventuresome travelers seeking more exploration destinations, the Baby Boomers checking off their travel bucket, and travelers who enjoy lectures by scientists, historians, and polar expedition experts. Lastly, families seeking a family-friendly vacation during semester break and the holiday seasons. While many yachts and expedition ships have a minimum age limit of approximately 10 years old, each company will vary.

    .

What makes a trip to Antarctica extraordinary?

    • Enjoy sailing by the icebergs throughout the Antarctica peninsula.
    • The use of zodiacs to reach the shore to explore historical sites.
    •  Fantastic wildlife viewing including Chinstrap, Adélie, and Gentoo penguins. Also a variety of seals such as the Antarctic fur, Leopard, Weddell seals and so much more. The humpback and Orca whales feed in Antarctic waters as well.
    • Cross the famous Drake Passage, with an array of seabirds following in your wake.

    Adventurous Polar Exploration!

    The Drake Passage

    The Drake Passage

    The Drake Passage

The famous Drake Passage connects the Atlantic, Pacific, and Southern Seas converge, creating a roaring current mix. The Drake Passage is infamously rough the currents at this latitude meet no resistance from any landmass, anywhere on the planet. Coupled with the area’s propensity for high wind, a crossing of the Drake Passage can be quite the adventurous exploit. However, the Drake experience may vary and can be calmer like crossing a lake on a rainy day, or it can be shaky, and the swells are over 6 feet, or more adventurous like a quake and the swells and winds are strong and may rock the vessel often. Family 1st Traveler, LLC's last expedition was similar to a lake experience, but this is not a normal sailing. Our travelers, who wish to avoid the Drake Passage will have the option to fly over.

    Flexibility!

    The Drake Passage

    The Drake Passage

When traveling to the most remote destination in the world flexibility is a must! All expeditions into this fascinating polar wonder are on set departures and as part of a small group of intrepid explorers, all sharing a keenness to experience something that most will not in their lifetime. The captain and crew’s priority is the safety of their passengers. Information about each expedition and landing can be vague. Each expedition and landing is heavily influenced by the weather and safety. Guests will be asked to be flexible. The captain will decide on each destination based on weather conditions. The captain will find the best spots to see wildlife and discover and learn more about the location. Some stops included former research buildings, former airstrip landing, volcanoes, and information on the history of whaling and science in the area. The polar expedition team is very knowledgeable. They will make every effort to provide an up-close perspective of the wildlife and historical area.

    Family 1st Travelers' Antarctica Experience

Our travel experts at Family 1st Travelers, LLC vetted several suppliers who can offer our travelers who are seeking a gentler-on-the-wallet polar expedition or a luxury yacht experience. Our luxury suppliers offer posh expedition yachts. Yet, our moderate and luxury travelers can enjoy the options to camp overnight, canoe, paddle board, and take a polar plunge.

Antarctica summer season An extraordinary journey to the Great magnificent wonder is offered during Antarctica's summer season November- February, while a few polar expedition companies will offer an early March sailing. With the increased interest there are only limited departures and room numbers on each vessel, and due to the popularity of the trips, spaces can fill quickly, so we recommend booking well in advance to secure your place on your preferred voyage of discovery.

Voyages average 9-17 days. However, we recommend 9-11 days is just fitting and allows the passage ample days in Antarctica.

    Polar Vessels

Antarctica is a uniquely forbidding landscape and as such there are a few options you can select for your accommodation. In Antarctica, you can navigate by luxury expedition ships, mod luxe vessels, or freighter-type vessels. Polar vessels are designed to navigate icy waters. While, Family 1st Travelers, LLC only works with vessels that we know offer the perfect mix of stability, speed, comfort, expert expedition team members, and safety. The private yachts and vessels we select have stately appointed staterooms where your will stay will offer luxury amenities, fine linen, and warm beds, that are much needed in the polar environment. The International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators states that only 100 people are allowed on land at any one time on a single vessel. Most expedition yachts and polar vessels carry less than 200 passengers.
